(一)基本資料

I attended Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Finland as an exchange student from September 2023 to June 2024. My campus was located in Vantaa, a part of Helsinki. I chose the Business Information and Technology program, where I took courses such as Data Decision Making, Digital Marketing and Sales, and Fundamentals of Software Testing. In Finland, education emphasizes practical learning. In this approach, real-world experiences replace traditional classroom lectures. Through hands-on projects, interactive workshops, and collaborative group activities, I gained valuable insights, quickly adapted to and absorbed new information, and honed essential skills that will benefit me in the future.(99字)

One course I recommend is Digital Marketing and Sales. This online course is particularly appealing because it allows for flexible scheduling, which is perfect for balancing a busy lifestyle. I can manage my own time, complete lectures at my convenience, and simply ensure that I meet the deadlines and upload the necessary proof of completion. This level of flexibility has made it easier for me to juggle other commitments while still staying on top of my coursework. The course content is comprehensive and covers a wide range of topics essential for understanding the digital marketing landscape. From learning about search engine optimization (SEO) and social media marketing to understanding analytics and sales strategies, the course provides a robust foundation in both theory and practical application. Each module is designed to build on the previous one, creating a cohesive learning experience that is both engaging and informative. What sets this course apart is its emphasis on practical, real-world applications. Instead of just learning theories and concepts, we actively apply what we learn through collaborations with actual companies. This hands-on approach involves using our acquired knowledge to help these companies address specific problems. We engage in tasks such as developing marketing campaigns, analyzing market data, and creating sales strategies tailored to the needs of these companies. These projects culminate in presentations where we showcase our findings and solutions to the company representatives. This interaction with real businesses not only enhances our learning experience but also provides us with valuable insights into the challenges and dynamics of the industry. Moreover, the collaborative aspect of the course fosters teamwork and communication skills. Working in groups to tackle real business issues encourages us to share ideas, delegate tasks, and develop solutions collectively. This mirrors the collaborative environment of the professional world and prepares us for future career opportunities. Overall, the Digital Marketing and Sales course is an excellent blend of flexibility, comprehensive content, and practical application. It has significantly enriched my understanding of digital marketing and sales, equipping me with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in this field. The experience of working with real companies and solving real problems is invaluable, making this course a standout in my academic journey.(367字)

(三)生活環境

The view around the campus is very convenient and well-connected. There is a large bus station where most buses stop by, and a train station nearby, making commuting easy. Additionally, there are two banks close to the school, providing convenient access to financial services. Behind the school, there is a public library, offering a quiet place for study and a vast collection of books. On the campus itself, we have only one main building. The school provides lunch on weekdays at the cafeteria, ensuring that students have access to nutritious meals. Within the campus building, there is also a small library where students can study and borrow books. This provides a quiet space for focused study sessions. The school has a student union with an office where students can get tea or coffee, fostering a sense of community and providing a place to relax and socialize. For accommodation, I live in an apartment provided by Hoas, a company that collaborates with the school to help students find suitable living arrangements. This partnership ensures that students have access to comfortable and convenient housing options. Regarding the weather, Finland's summer is pleasant and suitable for outdoor activities. However, winter can be extremely cold, with temperatures dropping to around minus 20 degrees Celsius and frequent snow. Daylight is also limited in winter, with sunlight only from 9 AM to 3 PM. It's important to bring vitamin D supplements to prevent seasonal depression due to the limited sunlight. Despite the harsh winter, the well-organized campus and supportive community make it a great place to study.(258字)

(四)自我成長

Overcoming difficulties encountered in life or courses often requires patience, adaptability, and resilience. One common challenge is understanding teachers or classmates who speak English with different accents. To address this, I found that actively listening, asking for clarification, and seeking additional resources such as lecture notes or recordings can be incredibly helpful. Practicing patience and engaging in conversations with diverse speakers also gradually improved my comprehension skills. In Finland, the primary language is Finnish, and most public signs, market labels, and official documents are in Finnish. Initially, this language barrier was daunting. To navigate this, I started learning basic Finnish phrases and utilized translation apps to understand essential information. Engaging with locals and asking for help also made a significant difference, as many Finns are willing to assist and often speak English. Experiencing cultural shock was a significant part of my journey. One notable experience was participating in a traditional Finnish dinner party, where everyone brought their own dishes to share with others. This communal style of dining was quite different from what I was used to, and it took some time to adjust to the idea of sharing food with a group in such an intimate setting. Additionally, social interactions in Finland were different from what I expected. Finns value personal space and may initially seem reserved. Understanding and respecting these cultural nuances helped me integrate better. For example, while attending the dinner party, I noticed that conversations were more subdued and that silence was comfortable and accepted, unlike in my home culture where lively and continuous conversation is the norm.(262字)

Embarking on a journey to study abroad is an exciting and transformative experience, but it also comes with its own set of challenges and uncertainties. As you prepare for this adventure, I encourage you to embrace the following advice: Firstly, keep an open mind and be adaptable. You will encounter new cultures, customs, and ways of life that may differ significantly from what you're accustomed to. Approach these differences with curiosity and respect, and be willing to learn and grow from them. Secondly, take the initiative to immerse yourself in the local culture and community. Engage in cultural activities, try new foods, and participate in events and festivals. Building connections with locals and fellow international students will enrich your experience and broaden your perspective. Additionally, don't hesitate to step out of your comfort zone and try new things. Whether it's exploring a new city, joining a club or organization, or taking a challenging course, pushing your boundaries will lead to personal and academic growth. Furthermore, stay organized and proactive in managing your academic responsibilities. Create a schedule, set goals, and prioritize your tasks to ensure academic success while still making time for exploration and personal development. Lastly, don't be afraid to seek support when needed. Whether it's from university staff, fellow students, or local resources, there are people and services available to help you navigate any challenges you may encounter. Studying abroad is an incredible opportunity for self-discovery, cultural exchange, and academic enrichment.
