2023大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

I studied Computer Engineering at the University of Sunderland in the UK from September 2023 to May of the following year. In the UK, you can only take three courses per semester. In my first semester, I took DevOps, Economics, and AI. In the second semester I took cyber security, two tourism courses. Only three courses professor was british, the other professors are all from all over the world.(68字)

My favorite course was DevOps. I was initially unsure about my future as a programmer, but this course gave me the motivation and passion I needed. The professor was a friendly British man who would walk around the classroom to explain key concepts and engage in discussions with students. He also cared about his students and would chat with them. His teaching style involved putting all the course material into a document, which made it easier for me to understand and review. I learned a lot of practical skills that I would only learn in a real-world job, such as using Git to track the progress of a large project, as well as continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) and automation testing. At the end of the course, we had a major project, and I created a front-end and back-end web search page. I felt a great sense of accomplishment and also felt that I had taken a very meaningful course. If I didn't understand something in class, the professor would always come up to me and explain it to me one on one. This made me love taking classes in the UK and also made me more clear about what I want to do in the future.(209字)

(三)生活環境

Accommodation for Exchange Students Most exchange students will be housed in Clanny House, where they will have their own private room with a sink. The bathroom is shared with one other person, and the kitchen is shared by the seven households in the building. Clanny House is a secure dormitory complex with a main gate, a reception desk for receiving packages, and security guards on duty at night. The 701 bus stops at the front gate, and students can ride it for free with their student ID card. The 701 bus goes to the city center and both of the university's campuses. You can find everything you need in the city center, including Marks and Spencer supermarket and a variety of restaurants. The Vietnamese pho in the city center is delicious and authentic. You might think that the weather in the UK is terrible, but once you return to Taiwan, you'll realize that weather in the UK is actually better. It does rain often, but it's usually just a light drizzle. Locals don't like to use umbrellas; they wear hats to stay dry instead. It snows for a few days in the winter, which can be quite fun.(196字)

One of the first things you'll want to learn when you come to the UK is how to cook, as restaurant meals typically cost around £10, which can add up quickly if you eat out every day. Most students cook for themselves. I learned how to shop for groceries in supermarkets and how to find recipes online. It was a bit of a hassle at first, but I eventually got used to it. There are a lot of African people in Sunderland. In fact, I'd say that about 70% of the people in Clanny House are African. In Taiwan, there is a stereotype that Africans are in need of help and that many of them live in poverty. But in Sunderland, they are your classmates or roomates. I learned to see every races equally and get along with them nicely. (138字)

(五)大三出國建議

When it comes to choosing courses, you can use Evision to check course details and reviews. This will help you make informed decisions about your studies. If you want to make friends with local people, you can join their clubs to get chances to know more people. As for groceries, marks and spencer are shut so if you wanna shop at mark and spencer, you might need to go to Newcastle. It is 3 pounds for a day ticket for people under 21 or so. I recommend you to get a pop blue card as it would be even cheaper. It will take 30 mins to get there if you take the metro. Tesco is the biggest grocery shop around Sunderland, you can get all the stuff you need there. As for traveling in the UK, I would recommend you to purchase a railcard as it would allow you to buy rail tickets at a cheaper price. Finally, if you plan to travel around Europe, you can use skyscanner to check for cheap flight ticket. Rayanair airline usually has cheapest ticket. you can use skyscanner to check for cheap ticket and download ryanair app to purchase flight ticket.(195字)
