During my junior year studying abroad, my favorite class was "Chemistry of Wine" at Temple University. This course captivated me not only because of its unique subject but also because it combined chemical theory with practical application, allowing me to understand and appreciate wine from a new perspective. The "Chemistry of Wine" course covered the entire process of winemaking, including the chemical composition of grapes, the chemical reactions during fermentation, winemaking techniques, and the analysis of the final product. The course was conducted through a combination of theoretical lectures and practical experiments. We learned not only how the sugars in grapes are converted into alcohol and carbon dioxide by yeast but also how different grape varieties and winemaking methods affect the flavor and quality of the wine. In the lab sessions, we had the opportunity to personally engage in the chemical analysis of wine, including measuring alcohol content, acidity, sugar levels, and other chemical components. These experiments not only enhanced my understanding of chemical theories but also allowed me to experience the joy and challenges of scientific research. For example, in measuring the alcohol content, we used distillation and titration methods, which not only familiarized me with these experimental techniques but also developed my skills in laboratory operations and data analysis. Additionally, in class, we had numerous discussions and interactions, with the professor often encouraging us to share our viewpoints and experiences. We discussed how various chemical components in wine influence its flavor, color, and aroma, and explored the impact of different winemaking techniques on the final product. These discussions deepened my understanding of wine and improved my analytical and critical thinking skills. This course not only equipped me with knowledge about the chemistry of wine but also sparked my interest in food chemistry and fermentation technology. I highly recommend this course to students interested in chemistry and wine, as it perfectly combines theory with practice and offers a valuable learning experience. Moreover, this course helped me develop scientific research skills, enhance my critical thinking, and improve my problem-solving abilities. These are invaluable assets for my future academic research and career development.

(四)自我成長
During my time studying abroad at Temple University, I encountered numerous challenges both in daily life and academics. However, these challenges ultimately became significant opportunities for my growth. Here are some of my experiences in overcoming these difficulties and dealing with cultural shocks. Firstly, the challenges in daily life mainly stemmed from adjusting to a new environment. When I first arrived in Philadelphia, I felt quite uneasy with the unfamiliar city, language, and lifestyle. To overcome these difficulties, I actively participated in various school-organized activities such as orientation events, student clubs, and cultural exchange programs. These activities not only helped me make new friends but also facilitated my integration into the local life. Additionally, I utilized the resources provided by the university, such as the student counseling center and language learning center, which offered practical advice and support to help me better adapt to the new environment. Academically, the difficulties were mainly due to the high academic standards and different teaching methods. University courses in the United States are demanding and place a strong emphasis on independent learning and critical thinking. To overcome these challenges, I developed good study habits such as creating detailed study plans, regularly reviewing course materials, and actively participating in class discussions. Moreover, I frequently communicated with professors and classmates, seeking their study methods and experiences, which significantly aided my academic progress. Cultural shock is an inevitable part of studying abroad. I remember feeling puzzled and confused by certain behaviors and attitudes that Americans take for granted. For instance, in class, students are accustomed to openly expressing their opinions, which was less common in my previous educational experience. To adapt to these cultural differences, I made an effort to learn and understand American culture and customs, and I tried to keep an open mind, accepting different viewpoints and ways of doing things. Gradually, I realized that these differences were valuable learning resources, allowing me to view problems from a broader perspective. In summary, overcoming difficulties in daily life and academics requires a positive attitude and effective strategies. By participating in various activities, utilizing university resources, developing good study habits, and keeping an open mind towards cultural differences, I gradually adapted to the study abroad life and gained valuable experiences and growth. These experiences not only boosted my confidence but also laid a solid foundation for my future academic and career development.
