My favorite course is Principles of Data Science, taught by Professor HongChang Gao. This course dives into various aspects of machine learning, covering topics such as data loading, plot visualizing, linear regression, logistic regression, ridge regression, and more. Among these, my favorite part is the recommendation system. For my final project, I aimed to design a recommendation system to help college students find the perfect dog breed for them. I chose to focus on college students' preferences because it's a relatable topic for me, and it narrows down the data used for the system. My data came from a dog breed dataset on Kaggle, which includes information about over 349 different dog breeds. The dataset provides various attributes, such as a dog's ability to stay home alone, its barking tendencies, and other relevant traits. For my system, I focused on attributes particularly suitable for college students, such as how well a dog adapts to living with multiple people like roommates and how loud they are, which is crucial for apartment living. In developing the recommendation system, I used similarity metrics to provide the top 10 dog breed rankings based on user preferences. To ensure the system is user-friendly, I created a simple user interface where users can input their preferred features from a provided list. The system then generates a list of dog breeds best suited for the user, based on the similarity of their selected attributes. This course has been incredibly rewarding and insightful. Professor Gao is very knowledgeable and approachable, and the TA is also excellent. If you have an interest in machine learning, like spam detection, movie recommendation, etc, I highly recommend taking this course. The blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application and also understandable, especially through projects like the recommendation system, makes it an invaluable experience. They also have advance courses. (304字)

Temple’s campus is always lively, and students can always find something to do at any time of the day. Something that stood out to me particularly was the variety of food that was available on campus, from the food trucks to restaurants, I was always able to find something different to eat on campus everyday, from a variety of different cultures. Furthermore, different school clubs also hosted a number of events every single day, usually offering free food or merchandise. While the campus was always lively, the surrounding area followed suit as well. North Philadelphia locals were always welcoming and kind, and even started conversations with random people. I usually ran into local residents on my way home, as I chose to live in an off campus apartment. My apartment was spacious and had everything I needed, including my own kitchen and bathroom. Off campus living was nice, as I met people who also lived in off campus housing and had pleasant experiences as well. Additionally, Temple University also provided a number of dorms available for students who wanted to live in the security of the campus. Overall, Temple is a welcoming, and accepting place, filled with a diverse student body that is engaged on campus every single day. (210字)

Living in a foreign country is not an easy task, and it is important to learn how to overcome difficulties, and how to deal with hardships that are thrown at you. One of the things I struggled with the most was being able to keep up with the amount of homework that was assigned every day. Deadlines in the USA are extremely strict, so practicing efficient time management skills was important. Managing my time efficiently helped me overcome this difficulty and keep up with my academics. Furthermore, the language barrier was something that overtime, I was able to overcome as well. When I found myself struggling with understanding material, I always translated different topics in my native language in order to fully grasp the material. Additionally, making connections with people from the USA was helpful, because they helped me with any questions I had, and even taught me idiomatic phrases and slang that helped my English sound more native, and natural. If you have a chance to come to Temple University, the first thing you need to do is find an apartment. I lived in Skyline Apartments. As the saying goes, "you get what you pay for." Even though Skyline is relatively cheaper than other apartments, the sound insulation is extremely bad, and it's about a 15-minute walk from campus. There are two banks near the campus: Bank of America and Chase. You need to bring your passport and I-20 to apply for a debit card. If you want to apply for a credit card, Bank of America does not require an SSN (Social Security Number), but Chase does. If you want to work off-campus, you can always apply for OPT (Optional Practical Training) to get an SSN. The Fresh Grocer is the closest market near campus. It has a variety of groceries. Remember to get a shopper card at the counter so that when you pay for items, you can scan the card to get a discount. If you have time, I highly recommend you take a look around campus before school starts so that you don't get lost. If you miss Asian food, "Orient Express" near the Bell Tower is a good option. They have authentic food, but be cautious as it might upset your stomach. Make sure you talk to your classmates and make connections with local PA residents. Through them, I was able to find out that Pennsylvania capital city was located only a 1 hour train ride away, and I was able to do something that I otherwise wouldn’t have known if it weren’t for local connections. Also, located just a 20 minute drive from Harrisburg is Hershey, PA, the city where all of the world’s chocolate is made. There are lots of interesting and exciting things to do around Philly outside of the city, so meeting long time PA residents helped me discover the hidden parts of Pennsylvania. Don't be afraid to make friends and speak English. Last but not least, do not go out alone at night; Broad Street can be very dangerous.(350字)

Flying between states is cheap, and taking the bus is even cheaper. The United States is huge, so a 4 hour bus ride to a different state is worth it. I traveled 9 hours to go to Boston, and I do not regret it. The distance and size of the states changed my perspective about traveling; and what I consider far in my home country, I consider extremely close in the United States.(71字)
