At Winona, we took many courses. Some professors were very interesting, some were very professional, and my favorite course was Web Technology. This course mainly taught us how to create web pages using HTML and CSS. HTML is used to create the structure of a web page, while CSS's main function is to beautify the structure. For example, this is an assignment from the class. We first write out the and then divide the content into multiple
s to separate each section. After completing the structure, we use CSS to change the layout of each
, such as the color of the fonts, text spacing, and so on. The most interesting part of this course is thinking about how to modify our code to achieve the desired effect. Sometimes, if there's a problem in just one place, the entire layout can change completely. In the later stages of the course, we even learned how to adjust the layout to accommodate different device sizes. Although it often took us a long time to finish our assignments, sometimes even half an hour after class ended, the professor was very kind and stayed with us, patiently explaining and teaching us until we understood. Therefore, if someone is considering which courses to take, this course not only teaches you a lot but also allows you to get high grades!(227字)

(三)生活環境

【照片說明:The scenery of the dormitory】

This photo was taken in my dorm room around January. It starts snowing here in December and stays cold until about March (although it can still snow until late April). If you're not too sensitive to the cold, most of the time is manageable, except when there's a cold snap. Winona is relatively remote and not as bustling as New York or Los Angeles, so there are fewer dining options. There's a 24-hour convenience store behind Kirkland Dorm, and large stores like Walmart and Target are a 10-minute drive away. Taking a Lyft costs about 9 dollars per trip, and there are also buses, though they don't run frequently. If you're staying in a dorm, some will require you to purchase a meal plan (one semester), which includes 10 or 14 meals per week at the school cafeteria (each meal averaging around 300 TWD). The meals aren't bad, but I never finish them all(10 meal). Additionally, you will get about 200 dollars in dining dollars to spend at their stores, which have panda express, Starbucks, sushi and some chips. Dorm prices are quite high, so if you want to save money and don't mind the hassle, you might consider finding a place to rent on your own or leaving at East Lake. East Lake doesn't require you to buy a meal plan, but it's further from the school. This option could be significantly cheaper.(229字)

In Minnesota, there's not much racial discrimination (though sometimes it happened), so the biggest challenges I faced were the climate and the food. After December, because it often snowed, every time we went out, there would be a lot of snow piled up at the door. Even walking required extra caution. There was one time when we drove out, and on the way back, it started snowing heavily. The entire road was slippery, and the car slid on the road. We ended up having to wait at a nearby rest stop until the snow stopped before we could return to the dorm. Regarding the food, American food isn't as good as Taiwanese food, in my opinion. Most of the time, it's fried food, coke, and pizza, which gets pretty boring after a while. So, I suggest buying at convenience stores and cooking by yourself. As for other small details, besides the well-known tipping culture, many Americans there are quite nice. If they see you in trouble, they will offer to help. When you're crossing the street, they'll stop their cars to let you go first. When entering a building, the person in front of you will often hold the door for you. Lastly, it's customary to say "thank you" or "have a nice day" to the cashier after buying something or to the Lyft driver when getting out of the car.(231字)

(五)大三出國建議

In summary, the benefits of studying at Winona include relative affordability compared to other parts of the US, (scholarships approximately 200,000 TWD per year), and leniency in English proficiency requirements. Additionally, the scenery is pleasant with proximity to the Mississippi River, and the people are friendly with minimal racial discrimination issues. Safety concerns are also less pronounced, with fewer incidents of violence or shootings. However, the drawbacks include its remote location, which can be inconvenient without a car, and the extremely cold winters. We even escape to Orlando during whole winter break to avoid the cold. Despite this, the cold is generally tolerable compared to places like Canada or Finland. I must emphasize again that the mandatory meal plan at Winona is a terribly flawed system. So, if you plan to live in the dorms, be sure to thoroughly check whether you can accept this or if there are better alternatives available.(151字)
