(一)基本資料

I decided to study in APU (Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University) in Japan. The school is very international, meaning that the total amount of students are 50% Japanese and 50% other nationalities. During this exchange I met many people from different countries and it was very fun and interesting going to class and participating in school events together. The courses are very diverse and you can choose from a long list of courses from both departments in APU. Most of the courses are not restricted, so it's easier to choose what course you want to take. Overall, it was a very fun and interesting exchange.(102字)

I have different favorite classes since some of them are different from each other. I managed to get into one of the most highly requested courses at APU, called Tea Ceremony. This course was not only interesting but also fun to attend and participate in. This is because the course wasn't just theory about the Tea Ceremonies in Japan, but more practical. You learn the steps of how traditional Japanese Tea Hosts prepared tea in the past, and the meaning behind each action performed during the ceremony, such values are like respect, gratitude, and the joy of sharing tea and sweets with other guests. Since this school is quite big and has plenty of students, most courses have 1-3 professors teaching the same course. I would suggest checking the website to find their syllabus and check the requirements and grading criteria for each course. This way, you can choose the professor whose teaching style suits you better, or follow some recommendations from other students. In addition to the Tea Ceremony course, I found that computer courses at APU are good for beginners. The professors provide examples and guide you throughout the course, making it very easy to follow. This might be a great opportunity to get into these kinds of courses, specially since APU doesn't limit you to courses from your department. This means, you have more options to explore courses outside your major, which can be a great advantage. Another course I would recommend would be Japanese language courses. In APU they have different levels and you have to perform a placing test before you can register to these courses. The reason I recommend this course as well, it's because it would help you adapt faster to the new environment and help you in your daily life interactions. Overall I would recommend you to take the courses you're interested in since this would motivate you to learn about it. Other than that, the above courses that I recommended would be beneficial and maybe interesting to be part of. Just take advantage of the flexibility APU offers and enjoy your courses.(351字)

(三)生活環境

The APU campus is on top of a mountain, and from the dormitory it takes about 40 to 60 minutes to get there, fortunately the bus comes around every 10 minutes and the stop it's not that far from the dormitory. The campus also has many facilities which makes it convenient to stay during the whole school day, from the cafeteria, small convenience stores, to lounges and study areas with desks and power outlets. Courses in APU are categorized in 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, semester-based, and sessions. This means that the usual 6 months courses are compressed to around 3 months. This just means that you will attend the courses twice per week instead of once. This can be very convienient since you can plan your schedule better. The accommodation it's a single bedroom, in a dormitory. It has a personal bathroom with shower, a personal fridge, desk, bed, balcony (you can hang clothes to dry here), and lastly an Air Conditioner. The dormitory also has lounges in each floor where you can hang out with friends, a shared kitchen with a locker that you can use to store your kitchen utensils, and a study room in case you have to work in groups. The dormitory is located near the beach, it has multiple parks surrounding it. It's also quite convenient since there are multiple grocery stores, and a lot of restaurants that you can go to eat. Lastly, there are some clubs that have karaoke, billiards, and darts that you can go to play with friends. For food, there are many different type of foods you can select from. Since Beppu have a lot of international students, many restaurants offer various selections of food, from Japanese, and Chinese, to American and Indian dishes. There is quite a lot of dishes you can eat and most of them are quite affordable. During the winter it gets very cold, and sometimes it might even start to snow. So it's very important that you get warm clothes and write down their emergency instructions in case you get sick, because during winter, it's very common to see many students sick in the dormitory. Also, if you can get a heater, I would definitely recommend it, since it will get very cold inside the room as well. During summer, the weather gets very hot, so it's important that you have breathable a comfortable clothes, and more importantly sunscreen, since the sun can get a little bit strong somedays. Lastly, for transportation, the dormitory offers a parking lot for bicycles, so in case you can get a bicycle, it would be very convenient to get groceries and go out to eat. Next, is the public bus. There are 2 companies that operate near the stations, Oita Kotsu and Kamenoi Bus. Usually, all exchange students use Oita Kotsu because the campus' CO-OP(APU's convenience store) offers 3-pack tickets for Oita Kotsu, which will be cheaper that using a transportation card. Another option is that if your stay is 1 year, and you have many courses, you can buy a 1-year pass for unlimited use of Oita Kotsu buses in Beppu only. (518字)

To be honest, the university is very international, so chances are you will find someone else from your country, or at least some people that will speak your same native language. There are a lot of clubs and circles which you can join and make friends with by sharing the same interests. I would recommend you to find or do anything that you like doing or that reminds you of your home country, because doing so, it might help you slowly adapt to the new environment you're living in. And more importantly, is that you come mentally prepared to find new traditions and manners that you might not find in your country. So, you should try to listen to the rules and instructions APU staff will give you to make your experience in Japan better. Also, exchange students can participate in a program called "APU Buddy" which was created to help exchange students get used to the life in APU and Japan. They can help you in case you have problems with language barriers, or school related matters. In the dormitory there is an office and 1 assistant per floor, which you can ask help from, in accommodation issues, if you get sick or you're trying to go to a clinic or hospital, they will help you out. Lastly, if you are feeling some cultural shock or is harder for you to adapt here, there also many groups in facebook created by students to help other students for different purposes, such as getting a part-time job, information and recommendations of courses, to getting some cheap second-hand items or even free that are given by graduating students. So, I would strongly suggest you to find and join these groups, so you can take advantage of it and help you adapt to the new environment.(302字)
