(一)基本資料

During my year abroad at Université Paris Cité, I attended classes at the Grand Moulins campus in the 13th arrondissement. The academic year was structured into three years(L1, L2, and L3), each comprising two semesters (S1 and S2, S3 and S4, S5 and S6). Talking about the course, the timetables are often published a few weeks before the beginning of term, and students need to email the preferred class selections to Dr. Clemence Follea, the academic coordinator for incoming students in the UFR Etudes Anglophones. Courses in the English department sometimes include lectures in French, necessitating careful selection during registration. Each semester required approximately 30 credits, with classes typically offering double the credit hours (e.g., a 1.5-hour class equated to 3 credits). Additionally, combining lecture courses (CM) with literature tutorials (TD) is encouraged for a more comprehensive learning experience, totaling 6 ECTS credits per module selection. (145字)

My favorite class is undoubtedly Victorian Literature: Texts & Image Relations in 19th Century Literature and Art”, held every Thursday from 15h15 to 17h15. Initially, it should be taught by another professor, but due to illness, the course is now led by Édouard Marsoin, a brilliantly knowledgeable professor I also had last semester. Our class comprises just six students, and as the only foreigner, I receive special attention from the teacher, who often asks if I need any help and chats with me after each class, encouraging me to ask questions. What makes this class particularly special is the teacher's approach. He engages each student individually, asking for their interpretations of the passages. This method fosters active learning rather than passive absorption of information and knowledge. Each session, we explore a new literary work, and beyond the usual textual analysis, we delve into the analysis of illustrations. This not only aids in better understanding the text but also sparks deep discussions and reflections, especially on the visual and thematic connections between different works. The integration of illustrations and texts as a learning method is fascinating because it relies on subjective interpretations, making the class feel unique and allowing me to gain knowledge quite different from what I experienced at Tamkang University. Here, I would like to recommend another professor: Eliane de Larminat. I was deeply impressed by this teacher, whom I encountered in the second semester. Every week, she took the time to check on each group's presentation progress and any difficulties we encountered, and she will provide timely feedback and evaluations. Her responses to student presentations were particularly detailed and conscientious, as she detail recorded each person's performance and provided thorough comments and evaluations. Even for written assignments, her feedback was never cursory. During the previous semester, she pointed out shortcomings in my thinking and analytical skills in her midterm feedback, which allowed me to promptly adjust my study methods and improve my academic achievements and performance. (三)生活環境

Located at the heart of Western Europe, Paris has consistently been ranked as the best city in France for studying abroad. With its rich history, deep cultural roots, and excellent educational system, it serves as a cradle for nurturing talent. Université Paris Cité is a comprehensive public university in Paris 13 district, renowned both in France and internationally. It boasts strong academic prowess in various fields such as medicine, science, and humanities, offering a wide range of undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs, alongside numerous research centers dedicated to advancing cutting-edge research. The university attracts students and scholars from around the world and has established collaborations with many internationally renowned universities. One of the most surprising aspects of my experience was the university's cafeteria, Restaurant universitaire Halle aux Farines - CROUS de Paris, where French fries are served as a main dish. This is the only cafeteria inside the campus. The meal pricing system is point-based: a main dish costs 3-5 points, side dishes like appetizers or desserts cost 1-2 points, and the total is priced at 3.3 euros for 6 points, with an additional 0.55 euros per extra point. Bread is free, and although Crous establishments are widespread across France, the menu and point system might vary slightly. In the 13th district near the University, there are convenient transportation options, including the Bibliothèque François-Mitterrand metro(Line 14) and train station(RER C) and the T3a tram stop at Avenue de France, and bus lines 62, 89, 25, and 325. The area is well-equipped with essential services: banks such as SG, CIC, and BNP Paribas; supermarkets like Intermarché and Monoprix; the nearby Salpêtrière Hospital is just 2.5 kilometers away. My dormitory is located further away in the 19th district at Delphine Seyrig, part of the Crous system under the French government. The room includes a bathroom and a kitchen with two hotplates and a fridge. It is furnished with a single bed, desk, sliding-door wardrobe, four large drawers, and additional storage space under the bed. My higher-cost room also features a balcony. Heating and the bathroom's electric towel rack are controlled by the dormitory and typically operational around October. Recommended additional items include a duvet, pillows, kitchenware, and bed linens. Living alone in a 22-square-meter room is quite comfortable, though the lack of a peephole in the door is a minor inconvenience. (386字)

Coming to France for my studies, the first thing that impressed me was the difference in educational approaches. French education emphasizes student autonomy and critical thinking, fostering independent thought and problem-solving skills. The exams tend to focus more on integrative analysis, comparison, and contrast, with questions that often have no specific answers, encouraging deeper reflection. Interestingly, my French friend Ann, whom I met in one of my classes this semester, mentioned, "French educational culture always emphasizes identifying the problem." For me, this is also a great opportunity to analyze and evaluate a subject from a broader perspective, uncovering its complexities and diversities, which helps me to think more deeply and expand my thinking while actively participating in the educational activities. Although the school itself offers relatively few international life activities, the vibrant French culture is often discovered in daily life. France is like a cultural melting pot, with people from different countries everywhere, and a plethora of international cuisines. Consequently, my monthly expenses have significantly increased compared to when I was in Taiwan. Interacting and sharing stories and cultures with friends from different countries broadens my horizons and ignites a longing to one day visit the origins of these stories and experience the cultural shocks firsthand. In this romantic and free-spirited country, there is a strong focus on personal rights and social issues, making strikes, protests, and demonstrations commonplace. People have become accustomed to them, sometimes responding with rationality or even humor. I remember my French friends sharing that they are used to spending over an hour getting to school, only to find out that there's a strike or class cancellation. They would then find a café or a relaxing spot to unwind and enjoy this unexpected break. C’est la vie! (292字)

(五)大三出國建議

In France, we have to fight for any chances. Asking more questions means getting more opportunities. Don't be shy away from asking because you feel it's troublesome. Administrative efficiency is notoriously slow, and a lot depends on luck. Handling matters in person is the best option, but many places require an appointment in advance, so don't make a wasted trip. Be proactive in inquiring about and following up on applications for Vitale health insurance and CAF housing assistance. I also suggest having the ability to communicate in French, as it will make life much more convenient. During this time, my understanding of France has expanded beyond what I once learned from books and the internet. After personally stepping onto this country of freedom, I immersed myself in the local culture and became a member of it. It truly feels like the saying "Traveling thousands of miles is better than reading thousands of books." This land, with its rich history and culture, has many ancient monuments and cultural landscapes that have given me a sense of timeless wonder. Every corner seems to hold endless stories and mysteries. This period has not only fostered my academic growth but also provided me with the opportunity to explore myself. I have learned respect, tolerance, and gratitude in daily life. It has also broadened my horizons and given me new perspectives on life. The exchange in Europe has undoubtedly been a journey full of challenges: adapting to life and culture in a foreign country, overcoming language barriers, and dealing with academic pressures are all issues I had to face. However, it is these challenges that have made me stronger and more mature, enhancing my intercultural communication and problem-solving abilities. These experiences have deeply taught me that growth often comes with difficulties, and each challenge overcome has made me stronger and more confident. I am very grateful for the opportunity to have been accepted for an exchange in France and for my willingness to embark on this one-year journey. For me, France is not just a place to learn but also a paradise for growth, a country I will always cherish and remember. (357字)

(六)其他

Cultural Sharing Through handwritten Spring Festival couplets, I introduced Taiwanese New Year culture to my French friends, fostering cultural exchange and understanding, and enriching cross-cultural friendships. I am very pleased and honored to showcase my cultural identity and values, allowing more people to recognize the charm of Taiwan. University Karate Club I discovered differences between French and Taiwanese karate: the French emphasize sparring, and the examination content requires the application of "kata" breakdowns. Additionally, French coaches are not allowed to participate in student examinations, which can only be overseen and evaluated by higher-ranked students. This experience allowed me to play the role of a judge, cultivating my observation skills, judgment, and sense of responsibility, while also providing different growth and learning opportunities. Friends' Gatherings After class, I enjoy evenings with friends at small bistros. France has a unique lifestyle and cultural atmosphere where people love to gather with friends or family in the evening to enjoy food, wine, and relaxed moments. This is why these places are still crowded even at 10 PM. (172字)
