The course I like the most is "Second Language Teaching Methods" taught by Prof. Sarvenaz Hatatimi. This course is a level 400 course and it wasn't as hard as it looks like. In this class, the professor is always friendly and conveys her lecture very well. In this class, we have to prepare a micro lesson that stimulates the real class a teacher teaches students to learn English as foreign language. The class is interesting and so does this project. We learn a lot about how to teach people the skills when learning English, including reading, writing, listening ,and speaking. The course I also like a lot is "Gender, Race, Sex & the Body '' taught by Prof. Kelsey Rosendale. The professor is friendly and makes students feel engaged in class. In the class, sometimes we have some activities to do to make us understand the course more. The most frequent activity is group discussion. Professor Rosendale would give us topics and we share our opinion with our groups. It is a 100 level course, and it's attractive and easy for me. The class I feel most stressed about is "Survey of American Literature" taught by Prof. Logan Esdale. It's a 200 level course, and I feel a bit overwhelmed with weekly assigned readings. We have two classes a week, and about two hours each time. Before the classes, we have to read a few long literature works. The length varies from shortly 10-20 pages to heavily 70-100 pages. Honestly, that's too much to read in a week, pulsing that I have other class's things to do. In this class, we also have some exams and assignments. As I remember, we only have mid-term and final but each of them including take-home parts. Thus, we have to write many essays. The exams and assignments are about the literature works in class, and we have to interpret our perspective by writing an essay. Professor. Esdale grades our essays carefully, he would mark all little mistakes. Apart from heavy readings and assignments, he is a good professor. He always encourages students with his positive feedback. The campus on CSULB is beautiful and big, and the classrooms always give me an impression of clean and bright. I live outside the campus and rent an apartment with my friends. The school and my apartments are located in a convenient neighborhood. Public transportation is also convenient in Long Beach. It only takes 15 minutes from my home to school. There are many routes that stop by school. Therefore we can go home or go downtown starting from school. The weather here is always sunny but it won't make me feel hot or sweaty. It's warm and comfortable sunshine. From fall to spring, there are some days where it will rain and the weather in the evening will turn cold. I think Long Beach is a great city to spend a year in. It has great weather and convenience. It usually takes 40 minutes to Los Angeles by taking Uber, and an hour and a half to LA by taking the metro or bus. If I need to buy something, there are also many choices for me. Here supermarkets like VONS, Target, and Trader Joe's where I can buy food and daily supplies. Amazon is also a convenient way to shop, everything you can think of can buy it on Amazon. Although Long Beach is convenient, it's still way more behind Taiwan. The supermarkets will close at a certain time unlike convenience stores in Taiwan. The restaurants are limited after 9 pm, but you can find some fast food opening until midnight. The most important and the fact I like the most in Long Beach is "safety". I feel very safe even when I return home late after night class. I would rate Long Beach and the campus for 90 out of 100. Honestly, I don't encounter too much difficulty in my year of studying abroad. As long as paying attention to what professor talk about, it won't cause too much problem for me. Although sometimes my brain can't understand immediately when the professor talking too fast, I can catch the meaning from the context. Outside of campus, sometimes I would also encounter the problem of native speaker speaking too fast. In this situation, they are willing to repeat what they said while politely asking them to speak again. As for culture shock, I encounter two of it.The first one is "I CAN SMELL WEED ANYTIME". Because weed is legal in USA, there are many people would use it. Sometimes you walked on the street, and the smell of weed would suddenly waft out and it's really stink for me. When taking the metro, the smell is even stinker sometimes. The second culture shock I met is that "AMERICANS ARE SO CONFIDENT". No matter I walk on campus or street, I can find many people wearing boldly. There is not as much judgment on people's bodies as Taiwan. Thus they dare to show and wear what they like with no limit. I can also see their confidence in class. In every class I took, they are very active in class discussion. They aren't afraid to answer the teacher's questions and share their opinion actively. Different from Taiwan's "silent classroom", I really like the atmosphere in class here. If people ask me what I've learned the most in this year, I would say that "I find my purpose in life". Surrounding in this positive atmosphere with active students, it reminds me to be better and better. I think maybe this is my future goal to live like this. (295字)

For people who want to apply for csulb, I suggest that don’t take too much pressure on lectures and assignments. The professor may talk fast and the assignments may be a lot. Don’t be frustrated, you will get used to it day by day. For the lecture, focusing on what the professor says and participating in the class as much as you can are what you have to do. The professor in the U.S very encourages students to share their thoughts on the class, and they will respect every opinion and be willing to discuss it with the students. There will often be some group activities in the class, and group discussions take the most part among them. You don’t have to worry about not being able to find group members, the classmates usually welcome you to be in their groups if you ask politely. As for the assignments, at first you may feel stressed due to the contents and the harsh grading by the professor. As long as you follow the guideline, you should be good. If you want to get a satisfying score, the professor is also willing to discuss with you about how to improve it. Aside from school life, you also don't have to worry about transportation here. Although many people say that “not having a car is like not having feets in America”, it would not cause a problem if you are willing to spend time commuting. Therefore, I recommend those who are about to study abroad that keeping an excited heart is all you have to prepare for your life abroad and don’t worry too much. Believe me, you would enjoy life in Long Beach!(286字)
