【照片說明:the class of liberation theology in America】

Although I went to Poland to study, my major was American Studies. Unlike other majors, I mostly took classes with Polish students and studied courses related to the Americas. One of my favorite classes was Liberation Theology of America. The professor was very friendly and taught us a lot of theology-related knowledge very enthusiastically. So I was able to understand from a Polish or European perspective what they thought theology was. Including Eastern "Zen", "Buddhism" and Western Catholicism and Christianity. And it was very interesting, I wanted to understand what Eastern religions looked like to them, and I also wanted to know something about Western religions that I didn't fully understand. For example, through this class, I found that "Buddhism" in the West advocates more of "meditation". But in Taiwan, it is more about the meaning of Buddhist scriptures or worship in Buddhist temples. As for Western religions, most people in Taiwan only know Jesus or the Virgin Mary. In Poland, it is even an integral part of their culture and life. For example, many national holidays are almost always related to Jesus or Catholicism. As for the Polish Pope John Paul II, he is an idol for all people, especially the elderly, who worship him endlessly. Because he is one of the few non-Italian popes and the first Slavic and Polish pope. And due to the nature of this class, of course you can also learn knowledge about liberation theology in America. In each class, the professor will leave 30 minutes for students to ask questions or debate, and hopes that different ideas will be stirred up and shared together in the process. For example, if you disagree with a certain religious point of view, or if this theory does not apply to everyone, you can put forward your own point of view, and the professor will answer your questions or invite everyone to discuss it together. After all, religion is a very controversial thing. And that's part of the fun of this class.(334字)

(三)生活環境

The main entrance of the University of Warsaw is located on the lively Nowy Swiat Street. If you walk straight ahead, you will reach the tourist attraction Old Town. There are many restaurants, cafes and bars on this street, and of course there are also souvenir shops. On weekends, the road will be closed to vehicles and only pedestrians can walk. Sometimes there will be parades during festivals or protests. Therefore, there are always many tourists and locals gathered. My department building is a 15-minute walk from the main campus, passing through a park. It is directly opposite the university library and close to the river. It is very convenient whether you want to study or relax. In terms of climate, winter in Poland is very different from Taiwan. It snows and sets very quickly, around three in the afternoon. Since there is no sunshine, the locals take vitamin D supplements, which can be purchased at local drug stores. I also buy my winter coats in Poland because the coats in Taiwan are not warm enough. In addition, you must also purchase a pair of non-slip and warm boots. Gloves, woolen hats and scarves can be purchased according to personal needs. The air in Poland is dry, and static electricity is common when touching doorknobs and other places. Body parts such as the throat and hands also need more care. When I first arrived in Warsaw, my body was very uncomfortable, but I got used to it after a while.(250字)

(四)自我成長

When I first arrived in Poland, there was actually a time when I was afraid to even communicate with the store clerk. I was afraid that they wouldn’t understand the Polish I spoke, or that I wouldn’t understand the English they spoke. I still remember that I had difficulty even ordering food at first, especially when I was very hungry and couldn’t think at all. But over time, I learned to quickly understand what the dish is, or look up pictures online, which is faster. In fact, the local people are very nice and patiently told me some Polish words that I didn't understand and tried to translate them for me. What I remember most is that when I was flying to Poland, the flight attendant asked me which meal I wanted, and they explained a long list of what the meal included, for example: she explained "sausage and mustard beef", and I Maybe I only understand the most important thing "beef", then I will order this dish. But maybe I don't like "mustard" at all, which will be very troublesome. But when I finished studying abroad and flew to Taiwan, I found that I could understand a whole list of dish names and the details of the dish, and I knew that my English had improved. Maybe it’s because I speak English almost every day this whole year. Especially when I am surrounded by Europeans. Everyone comes from different countries and has very different accents. Over time, I have been trained to understand English with different accents.(262字)

(五)大三出國建議

Even if you have never been exposed to Polish before, I think it is important to learn Polish early if you plan to study in Poland. Even a simple conversation will work. The language barrier will make you miss many opportunities to get in touch with the local Polish culture. You can still only hang out with Taiwanese or international students, but I think that's a missed opportunity. Since Polish food or European food is very different from Asian food, if you like Asian food, it is best to learn to cook your own food. The prices here are very low and it will not cost much to cook your own food. If you go to a restaurant to eat Asian food, it's not only expensive, but it's usually not tasty. Try to prepare your own commonly used personal items and medicines. If you can buy things that are available everywhere, just go to Poland and buy them. For medical treatment, please understand or consult the insurance company’s claim coverage and the information you need to prepare in advance, so as not to be in a hurry when you really get sick. If you can seek medical treatment in Taiwan early, please complete the treatment before leaving the country. Because in Poland, even private hospitals that are expensive and can provide quick treatment can only make an appointment in advance, and once you are 10-15 minutes late, you can only wait for the next available appointment time. And this is very inconvenient.(253字)
