2023大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

The school I applied to is ICMS in Sydney, Australia. I arrived on August 25th and moved into the school dormitory. Four courses are taken in one semester, and each course lasts three hours a week. There are only one to three classes to attend each week, and the rest of the time is free to plan and complete reports and assignments.(62字)

My favorite class is Bar and Mixology. When I was choosing courses in Taiwan, I heard that in this class you can mix your own drinks. The instructor is a Korean. At the beginning, she taught about the manufacturing process of wine, its origin, the differences in varieties, and how to distinguish the types of wine. Later on, I entered the bartending class, where I first became familiar with the bartending equipment, then tasted the wine, and finally practiced it, practicing one by one according to the recipes. During the exam, we have to randomly select questions and chat with the professor throughout the process to create the experience of actually bartending for customers. Although it was very difficult, it was the class that I found most interesting and learned the most. It is also because of this class that I know and understand all kinds of wines, which makes me more familiar with bartending at work. Because there is an area in our executive lounge where guests can mix their own drinks. There are also details on how to cut lemons and limes, and which kind of glass goes with which kind of wine. And compared to other courses where we have to stay in the classroom and watch slides and listen to the professor. Bar and Mixology is a course that I think is very worthwhile. Although the professor is very strict and has high requirements for the completion of exams and reports, But I think this is also to allow us to experience early and adapt to the tests and challenges we will face in the workplace later. It is highly recommended to take this course, and this is a small class with only 12 students, so you can have a good class situation, and the professor can pay careful attention to every students.(306字)

(三)生活環境

ICMS is located in Manly, Sydney, a famous holiday beach. The school is located about 20 minutes down the hill from downtown Manly. The campus is large and beautiful like a castle. It has a sports field, a gym, a laundry room with free washing and drying, a basement bar, and a student restaurant. The accommodation rooms are divided into two buildings and most of them are single rooms. The school accommodation fee includes water and electricity and provides three meals a day. If you go down to the city, there will be a shuttle bus on weekdays, which is quite convenient. There are also many restaurants and beverage shops in the city. We came at the end of August, just as winter turns to spring, and the temperature difference between morning and evening is extremely large, especially near the sea and in the mountains. Fortunately, the room has a heater to increase the temperature in the room. There is no air conditioning in the room. Because of the location, the room will not feel hot even without air conditioning. Housekeeping will come to help us clean the room every week, including changing sheets, taking out the trash and cleaning the floors. The only drawback is the public bathroom. You may need to avoid crowded times to go to the toilet and take a shower. In addition, the sound insulation of the room is very poor, so light sleepers may not sleep well. Because Manly is far away from downtown Sydney, you need to take a ferry to get there. A round trip costs about NT$320 and takes an hour.(269字)

(四)自我成長

When a person comes to a strange place, it will inevitably take some time to adapt. Whether it is life, study, diet, climate conditions or even interpersonal relationships, it all takes time to relax and accept. In addition to complex reports and assignments to be completed, it is very challenging to first understand the requirements of the assignment because I have never been exposed to these programs or websites before. We will get together as a group to discuss assignments, and we will also go directly to the professor for advice. The interview preparation for the internship was also what made me anxious. When I completed the interview and got the offer, I didn't get a response. Instead, they were suppressed and delayed by various excuses. It took me three months to find an internship on my own, but it helped me develop my stress tolerance and attitude towards handling things. I am really anxious when encountering these things alone in a foreign country. Watching other students start internships while I am still waiting, it feels too torturous. Everything in Sydney is new and very different from what it was like in Taiwan before. Although I encountered a lot of doubts and setbacks during this journey, I am glad that I survived and was not knocked down by the rumors. Although I was very reluctant to talk to foreigners at school because I was afraid that I would not be able to speak well, but since I started my internship, I feel like I have stepped out of my comfort zone. I am more daring to express myself and get along with my colleagues easily.(275字)

(五)大三出國建議

Sydney is a beautiful city, and you won’t regret it if you choose to come here for exchange. In the first three months, you don't have to worry about food and housing when you stay at school. You can adapt and adjust your life well. Prepare carefully for the internship interview, and try to determine the internship location before leaving school, so that you can start a stable working life after moving out. Although there are many Chinese people in Sydney, there are still many opportunities to speak English in school and internships, get to know more people, and exchange more interesting things. There will be a lot of things you don’t understand at the beginning, but don’t be discouraged or frustrated, things will definitely be solved in the end. If there is something you don’t understand, in addition to asking the school teachers, you can also ask friends from the previous class. Maybe they will know what you want to ask better than the teacher and can give you the most complete answer. When you have time and money, go to other areas for a walk, explore more beautiful nature, and see more of the sea and sky, which can effectively heal yourself. Prices in Australia are very high, about twice as high as in Taiwan. When I first came here, I didn’t dare to buy anything because I thought it was expensive. After three months, you will gradually get used to it and learn many ways to save money. The Internet is also your best helper. You will find answers to many things if you look them up on the Internet.(278字)

(六)其他

Although I went through a lot of setbacks before deciding on an internship location, it still feels like a dream when I think about it now. Because of an internal recommendation from a friend, I had the opportunity to interview at Marriott. At first I thought the department I was applying for would be related to food and beverage, but since I am not a barista, I was worried about whether I would fail again. Later, the interviewer introduced me to the manager of guest relation, who was affiliated with the front office. The interview went very smoothly. The manager even took me to visit the executive lounge after the interview. He sent all the information to the human resources department on the same day. I received the offer and officially started working the next week. I just feel that everything is as incredible and wonderful as a dream, but I am glad that I persisted until the end, and everything will be the best arrangement.(166字)
