2023大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

From 2023/7/21 to 2024/7/12, I had my study abroad program in ICHM, which located in Adelaide, Australia. The server etiquette, restaurant service standard etiquette and training, be our guest, first taste at culinary, and work integrated learning, these are the courses I'd studied. (41字)

(二)課程學習

My favorite course is "first taste at culinary", which was taught by Lachlan Kelly, we called him Laucky. We made a lot of cuisine in the classes, such as chocolate tart, curry, gratin of penne, sticky date pudding and tiramisu. Through this course, my cooking skill improve a lot, since I didn't know how to cook before the classes. Now, I know how to make some dessert. At first, I was very worry about my dietary, since I’m a vegetarian which means that I wasn’t sure what were we going to cook. Fortunately, Laucky told us that he can customized the recipe if any of us have dietary concern. Therefore, I learned both vegetarian and meat cooking skill. In the class, I learned that a good chef not only need professional skill but also team work skill and communication skill, since it’s a work that worked as a team. People in the kitchen must communicate in order to achieve a good team work and finished the work faster. On the contrast, lack of communication might not only cause inefficiency but also cause poor kitchen safety. For instance, one’s held a hot culinary walking behind you without inform you, people might bump into it and cause injury, which isn’t what we want to see in the kitchen. The reasons I recommend this class not only I learned a lot from it but also the important part, which is Tr. Laucky. He is full of passion and enthusiasm when teaching us. Every time having the class, I’m always excited. Furthermore, he is very patient when we have a lot of questions or when we need help. For instance, I’m not good at cooking; however, he told us that whether we are a good cooker or not, if we love to cook or want to learn how to cook, it won’t be a problem, which encourage me a lot. (三)生活環境

ICHM is located in Adelaide CBD, which is nearby our student accommodation that only need to walk for 5 minutes. My first impression of the school is a little building with cute signboard. Even though it’s only a second floors building, there are a lot of facilities in school, such as, library corner, table tennis, and advanced teaching facilities. For student accommodation, I chose to live in Scape with my friends. I had my own room and bathroom, and shared kitchen with others. Every month there is an environment evaluation, which means that it will ensure the environment is clean and tidy to keep a good living place. Furthermore, there are also entertainments in Scape, such as movie theater, table tennis, pool table and game room. Moreover, Scape will plan some activities every month, in order to allow us meet new friends. Through these activities, I met a lot of friends from different countries. Since we live in CBD, it’s really convenience for us to buy some necessary. We can walk, take tram, or ride beam to Victoria market and high street. During our free time, we often took train and bus to the beach to enjoy the warm sunshine and watch the sunrise, which is my favorite part in Australia. Talking about the weather, I love cold weather, which is the reason why I love the winter in Australia. You might feel cold in winter, however, if you stay under the sunshine, you can warm up and get more comfortable. (252字)

(四)自我成長

Overcoming difficulties, whether academic or cultural, is a natural part of studying abroad especially having internship in other country. Here are some ways of my experience to navigates the challenges. First of all, communicate to others. If there are some confuse or unacceptable things, communicating is always the way to understand what others are thinking. That is, people can get to know each other’s thoughts through communication, and not only the problem solved but also improve the communication skill. Furthermore, adopt a positive mindset. Instead of seeing obstacles as roadblocks, consider them as chances for growth and learn. For instance, during my culinary course, I initially struggled with cooking skills, but with patience and a positive outlook, I improved. Focusing on progress rather than perfection helped me overcome my fears. Moreover, step out your comfort zone is an important way to deal with the difficulties. The key to embrace new experiences rather than avoid them. By gradually integrating into the local lifestyle, you will become more confident and open-minded to new perspectives. Last, seeking support from others, such as your peers, teachers, and school counselors. Take my school for example, ICHM works in partnership with Australian Counselling Services, which is available 7 days a week. That is, student can make an appointment with it and seek for help. In conclusion, studying abroad comes with its challenges, but it also invaluable lessons that will stay with you for life. Through the journey of the year, you will become more independent, adaptable and open-minded that will serve you well both personally and professionally. (261字)

(五)大三出國建議

Studying abroad is a credible opportunity, here are some suggestions and experience based on my junior year. First, learn some information of the country or city you are going to can maximizes your time there. For instance, the public transportations in Adelaide are tram, bus, and train. There is free tram zone in the city, which is quite convenience. However, if you are going to the country side, you have to top on your transportation card. Different city has their own transportation card, metro card in Adelaide, opal card in Sydney, and myki card in Melbourne respectively. In addition, embrace new experience whether it’s a new cuisine or activities also be open-minded. Take myself for example, Australia is an exotic country, I met a lot of friends that are from different country, such as France, Italy, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia. Every country has its own way of doing things, being flexible and open to learn from different ways of thinking, and you will grow as much as you imagine. Moreover, manage you time balancing studies and exploring, which means that work hard and play hard. It’s impossible studying all the time, please don’t stay in the same places, you can go outside the CBD enjoy the nature and have fun. I went a lot of places in the year and I can tell you it’s worth it, which allow me to create memories not only with my friends but also the life in Australia. Last but not least, be prepared for challenges, there will be moments of homesick or culture shock, but it’s normal and it’s some parts of the experience. Don’t hesitate to seek support from friends and teachers. The challenges you face will help you become more adaptable and resourceful. (299字)
