My favorite course during my time at The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management was Hotel Operations. This course was comprehensive, covering both Front Office and Housekeeping operations, which are fundamental aspects of hotel management. The Front Office portion of the course was particularly engaging, as it provided us with the opportunity to learn and work with the actual systems used in hotels. These are the systems that guests interact with when they check in, request services, or check out. The instructor guided us through the detailed process of system operations, from managing reservations to handling guest inquiries. This practical knowledge was invaluable, especially during my internships, where I could directly apply what I had learned in a real-world setting. It was empowering to see how the foundational skills we developed in class translated into professional competence during our internships. The Housekeeping part of the course was equally impactful. It was a hands-on experience where we didn’t just learn about cleanliness standards but actually practiced cleaning rooms to the high standards expected in luxury hotels. We learned how to efficiently clean and prepare a room, ensuring that every detail was perfect for the next guest. This experience was further enriched by visits to hotels where we could observe their Housekeeping departments in action. One of the highlights of these visits was learning towel art from hotel staff, a skill that adds a special touch to guest rooms. The attention to detail and the emphasis on efficiency taught in this course have made me appreciate the intricate work that goes into maintaining hotel operations and have prepared me well for a future career in hospitality management.(275字)

Overcoming challenges in both life and academics is a crucial part of personal and professional growth. At The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, I faced several difficulties, particularly with the rigorous coursework. Each class involved group discussions and presentations, which were both rewarding and demanding. Working in groups required strong communication and collaboration skills, especially since my classmates came from diverse cultural backgrounds. This diversity, while enriching, also introduced cultural differences that sometimes led to misunderstandings. However, by being open-minded and respectful, I learned to appreciate these differences and use them to strengthen our teamwork. The exams were another significant challenge. They were tough and required a deep understanding of the material. To overcome this, I developed effective study habits, such as organizing study groups and managing my time more efficiently. Collaborating with classmates in study groups allowed us to share knowledge, clarify doubts, and prepare more effectively for exams. Cultural shock was also a part of my experience. Moving to Dubai, I encountered a new environment with different customs, traditions, and languages. Initially, adapting to this new culture was overwhelming. However, by embracing the local culture, participating in community activities, and engaging with people from various backgrounds, I gradually adapted and grew more comfortable, I made many friends from many different countries. These experiences taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of cross-cultural understanding, all of which are invaluable skills in the global hospitality industry.(236字)

As you prepare for your junior year abroad, I’d like to share some advice that I found valuable during my own experience. First and foremost, it’s essential to learn how to be independent and confidence. Living in a foreign country means you’ll often have to solve problems on your own, whether it’s managing your finances, navigating a new city, or handling academic challenges. Developing this independence will not only help you succeed abroad but also build confidence that will serve you well throughout your life. Time management is another crucial skill. Studying abroad comes with a unique set of distractions—new places to explore, new friends to meet, and a different academic system to adapt to. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement, but it’s important to maintain a balance between your studies and personal life. Create a daily schedule that allows you to enjoy your time abroad while keeping up with your academic responsibilities. Lastly, respect for different cultures is key. You’ll be interacting with people from all over the world, each with their own customs and perspectives. Embrace this diversity and be open to learning from it. Being respectful and considerate of others’ backgrounds will not only help you build strong relationships but also broaden your own worldview. In summary, embrace independence, manage your time wisely, and always respect the cultural diversity around you. These principles will help you make the most of your study abroad experience and prepare you for a successful future.(255字)
