2023大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

The school I applied for is ICHM, which is located in Adelaide, a city in southern Australia. My arrival time is July 22, 2023, and the school start date is July 24, 2023.During one semester, four courses will be taken, each course has four credits, and there will be at least 2-3 assignments to complete. (二)課程學習

My favorite course is Sever Etiquette. The instructor was Niels Sloos. When I was in Taiwan, this course was one of the three courses that everyone had to take, so at the beginning I was not very clear about the actual content of this course, but when I really came into contact with it When I took the class, I found this class very interesting. In the course, the teacher will show us how to make different cocktails and coffee, and will let us practice making different drinks. For example, the bases used in different cocktails will be different and the proportions used will be different, or we should pay attention to when making cocktails. The different proportions and the concept of hygiene are part of the class. My favorite non-alcoholic drink is lemon lime bitter. It is really a good non-alcoholic drink. In the course, we also learned about restaurant etiquette, such as the placement of knives and forks, the making of napkins, or the restaurant service process. One of the exams was to use the order of restaurant etiquette to score points. Because the school divides the entire class into three class periods, I think the teacher’s intention is to allow every student to have the opportunity to practice during class. Because there are many practical opportunities, I think this creates an atmosphere that makes it easier for me to learn. Because a lot of experience allows me to gain experience from practical operation opportunities, and the teacher will point out what can be done better and also guide very hard and attentively, so I always feel that I like it very much during the course study. ICHM is located in the southern city of Adelaide in Australia. It is also the fifth largest city in Australia. I think this city gives me a relatively leisurely and comfortable atmosphere. For example, many stores in daily life will close at 5-6 pm, and they will be closed on Saturdays. In fact, there are many new things in life. For example, driving in Australia is on the right side, so when I first arrived in Australia, I felt it was strange. And I think the roads in Australia have many twists and turns, but the scenery along the way is very beautiful. The ICHM campus is not actually very big, but each classroom can accommodate many students. The campus also has specially designed classrooms for many practical classes. There are many machines for students to use. The school is also located near the city center and is only a few steps away from the shopping malls in the city center. It’s a 10-minute walk and I think the location is very good. The place I have been living in for the past six months is student accommodation in Australia. Only those who need a student visa can move in. The name is Scape. I think the accommodation environment is actually very new. Both the lobby and the room are clean and tidy. Secondly, I live in the room where others share the kitchen, two friends also live there, so we actually rely on each other and accompany each other in daily life. We go shopping for daily necessities with our friends. In my life in Australia, I think what I like most about Australia is its weather, because Australia is drier than Taiwan. Taiwan sometimes makes me feel too humid and too hot. So when I live in Australia, what I like most is the dry weather in Australia.(311字)

(四)自我成長

Throughout the year, academic difficulties can often be alleviated with the assistance of teachers. For example, there are specialized teachers who can help with grammar or reviewing literature in assignments. Therefore, I don't think I encountered any major academic difficulties. I believe the greatest challenge I faced during the year was from mid-January to the end of 2024. At that time, I was preparing to start my internship, which involved entering a new environment, meeting new people, and learning new things. I felt extremely anxious and nervous during this period. A few days after starting the internship, I suddenly began experiencing lower back pain. Initially, I didn’t pay much attention to it, thinking it would improve after a few days. However, the pain worsened over time, and one day, I had to take leave from work to rest at home. In the afternoon, after resting, I found that I was unable to stand up on my own. I went to see a doctor with a friend’s help that day. The next day, I had a CT scan at the hospital and discovered that I had a herniated disc causing compression on my sciatic nerve due to a sprain. I was completely at a loss because I didn't understand what caused the injury—possibly improper lifting techniques during the internship. At that point, my only option was to rest and properly recover, as I couldn’t stand up on my own for nearly a week. After recovering gradually, I also underwent physical therapy to speed up my recovery. Additionally, since I had a doctor's note certifying that I was unable to work, HR required medical proof of my recovery before I could return to the internship. I consider this the biggest challenge I faced during my year abroad because dealing with medical issues in a foreign country was unfamiliar to me. I had to understand that in Australia, you need to see a GP for further diagnosis. During this period, I learned a lot. I figured out how to see a doctor in Australia and how to communicate with my supervisor and HR. These experiences were valuable lessons for me. (360字)

(五)大三出國建議

One of the advantages of studying at ICHM is the opportunity to choose from different cities for your internship in the next semester, such as Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane. You can select the hotel and city that best match your preferences. I believe that the purpose of spending a year abroad is not only to improve your language skills but also to understand different cultures and meet new people. I recommend taking the time to explore and visit more remote areas—you might even get the chance to see wild kangaroos!(91字)

(六)其他

I am very grateful to my friends for living with me in Australia this year. We created many wonderful memories together, such as visiting the zoo, going on road trips, and enjoying a lot of delicious food. During my internship, I also met many interesting colleagues and friends who were all very kind. Although the internship was quite tiring, I think it a beautiful memory.(65字)
