My favorite class was Gender, Race, Gender, and Society. In this class, Professor Mariam Youssef always talks about a lot of interesting things about gender and race, which I rarely hear in Taiwan. The professor mainly uses classes and reading articles to let us understand the differences between gender and race. by exploring social issues from different countries, cultures, races, etc., she also let us to understand many types of gender orientations and helped me learn a lot of English words. Professors often enjoy interacting with students and encouraging them to share their opinions. As a result, I often hear from students of various ethnic backgrounds. Every student's reaction is actually quite interesting, which is why I'm always on time for class and look forward to it. Sometimes, when we complete a reading assignment, the professor will ask us to work in groups to discuss and share our thoughts on the material. During these discussions, I learned about my classmates’ life experiences, including the challenges they faced and how they overcame them. Facing unfair treatment. Through my professor’s assignments and articles, I learned about how women were treated in the past and how they used their power to fight for the freedom they deserved. This class helped me better understand social issues and encouraged me to think more about gender equality and justice. The students in this class also have their own ideas. They have the courage to be themselves and wear the clothes they want to wear. They have self-confidence that people in Asian countries don’t have. They don’t care about others’ eyes and show off their beauty. I'm really impressed by how they don't hesitate to praise others, and I really like this class environment. This is the thing that we can learned from and be more confident. (303字)

The weather in California is really nice. The sun shines every day. One of the most popular places we visit is the beach because the weather is so good that everyone goes there to enjoy the sun. People often just lie down and relax, enjoying the chill vibes, which is so much fun. The school here is really big. In the second semester, I usually take the school bus to get to my classes because walking to the classroom can take about 15 to 25 minutes. I also go to the gym whenever I have time because it’s free, and I need to work out and do some cardio. I live in the school dorm, and the room is small, but it has a heater, which makes my winter so cozy. My roommate and I usually eat inside the school dining hall. We have two dining halls, and sometimes we can choose which one to eat at. They always have two or three kinds of food, but most of the time it’s American food, which is salty and often served cold. Occasionally, we get Asian food like pho or ramen, but they don’t have the habit of eating soup. The food I miss the most is definitely soup. For transportation, we usually take the bus when we go grocery shopping or visit outlets because we don’t have a car. In Los Angeles, if you don’t have a car, it’s really difficult to get around conveniently. So, we rely on the bus to get to nearby shops. However, when you think of LA, you often think about Hollywood or downtown, and for those places, we have to call an Uber. Unfortunately, it’s usually expensive, so it’s better to find friends with cars or share an Uber with 4-6 people to split the cost and make it cheaper. Overall, living in California has been a great experience. The weather, the campus, and the surrounding area all make it a wonderful place to study and explore.(339字)

When I was in school, I had to get used to living in an English-speaking environment. Even though we learned English in Taiwan, it was hard at first to speak it every day. I often needed to use English at school, in restaurants , or in shops. At first, I felt nervous and was scared to talk, so I used a translator a lot. But after some time, I became more comfortable. I started practicing more and felt better about talking to locals. Soon, I could chat with people easily and join class discussions with more confidence. For presentations, I slowly got better at sharing my ideas and answering questions from classmates. Writing emails was another skill I had to learn. When I needed to take time off or ask questions in class, I had to write proper emails to my professors. Writing emails wasn't just for school either. For example, if I ordered something online and it was wrong, I had to email the store to fix the problem. These small things helped me get better at using English. At the same time, I had to get used to cultural differences. In Taiwan, we don't often share our opinions during class. But in the U.S., students are encouraged to speak up. At first, I was shy and worried about making mistakes, but over time, I got used to it. I started to enjoy sharing my thoughts and learning from others. As I grew more confident, I also made many friends. I now have friends from different countries and lots of American friends. Talking to people became much easier, and I enjoyed group activities and spending time with classmates from all over the world. These experiences made me more confident, not just in English but in handling challenges in a new environment.(302字)

(五)大三出國建議

This year at CSULB has been full of new experiences, and I feel it has been totally worth it. The most important thing to focus on is keeping a good GPA. To do well, you need to go to class regularly and finish your assignments on time. If you do this, it’s easy to pass the courses. The professors here are very nice, so if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask—they’re always happy to help. The best part has been making so many friends from different countries and experiencing new things, like visiting their churches, celebrating their holidays, and taking their classes. These experiences have helped me learn more about the world and different cultures. For students thinking about applying to this school, I’d say: be confident, stay relaxed, and enjoy the good vibes here. Don’t be afraid to get involved—attend as many events as you can. You’ll meet lots of new people, and you’ll make many friends. It’s also important to find a good balance. While studying is important, remember to explore, have fun, and experience new things. Travel around, try different foods, and make the most of your time. Studying here is not only about grades, but also about making memories, meeting people from different backgrounds, and growing as a person. Overall, my time at CSULB has been amazing, and I’m thankful for all the experiences and friendships I’ve gained. (246字)
