I’m a Tourism student at Tamkang University, studying in an all-English program. Currently, I’m also pursuing studies abroad at the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS), majoring in Hospitality. My focus is on key areas of the industry like revenue optimization, food and beverage service, hotel management, and service and experience design. My favorite class is Food and Beverage Service. This course not only teaches the fundamentals of Western dining etiquette but also provides hands-on experience in a simulated restaurant environment at our school. The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical application makes the class highly engaging and rewarding. At the beginning of the course, our instructor introduces us to essential Western dining customs, such as the correct placement of utensils, the sequence of serving dishes, and the appropriate behavior expected in a formal dining setting. These foundational lessons help us understand the etiquette required in professional hospitality settings. As the course progresses, we move into practical training in the school’s simulated restaurant. This experience allows us to apply what we’ve learned in real-world scenarios. For instance, we practice how to set up a table correctly, including arranging tableware, napkins, and glasses according to professional standards. We also learn how to take orders efficiently, ensuring clear communication between customers and kitchen staff. One of the highlights of the class is learning how to prepare coffee. We explore the different methods of brewing, understand the equipment used, and get hands-on experience making espresso, cappuccinos, and other popular beverages. These skills are not only fun to learn but also highly valuable for anyone aspiring to work in the hospitality industry. Overall, this class has deepened my understanding of food and beverage service while strengthening my practical skills. The blend of classroom learning and real-life application has made it an unforgettable experience, and I look forward to applying these lessons in my future career.(261字)

The International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS), is situated in the picturesque coastal suburb of Manly, renowned for its beautiful beaches and vibrant atmosphere. The campus is a standout feature, housed in a historic, castle-like building that overlooks the ocean. This setting creates a peaceful and inspiring environment for studying, with the main building surrounded by lush gardens that offer a serene contrast to the bustling energy of downtown Sydney. The combination of history and natural beauty makes ICMS a unique and prestigious place to learn, blending academic excellence with the charm of a relaxed coastal lifestyle. For accommodation, ICMS offers on-campus dormitories, providing students with the convenience of living close to their classes and access to all campus facilities. The dorms foster a strong sense of community, making it easy to meet new people and participate in campus activities. However, some students, including my friends and I from Tamkang University, opt to live off-campus in shared apartments around Manly. This option allows for more independence while still being near ICMS, the beach, and other local attractions. Manly’s walkable layout ensures everything you need is within reach, from grocery stores and cafes to shops and public transportation, including ferries and buses connecting to Sydney’s city center. Manly's climate is another highlight, with mild, comfortable weather year-round. Summers are warm and perfect for enjoying outdoor activities like beach outings, while winters are cool but never harsh, making it easy to adapt. The outdoor lifestyle here is a big part of the experience, with plenty of opportunities for hiking, swimming, or simply relaxing in the area’s parks and trails. Day-to-day life in Manly is convenient and enjoyable. Dining options abound, ranging from cozy cafes to international restaurants, ensuring there’s always something new to try. Grocery shopping is simple with several supermarkets nearby, and public transportation, particularly the scenic ferry service, offers a stress-free way to explore Sydney’s central business district. Studying at ICMS and living in Manly provides the perfect balance of academic rigor, community connection, and coastal living, making it an unforgettable study abroad experience in Sydney.(351字)

Studying abroad at the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS), has been an incredible journey, filled with opportunities for growth and self-discovery. However, it hasn’t been without its challenges. One of the biggest adjustments was adapting to the rigorous academic schedule while navigating a completely new environment. The curriculum at ICMS emphasizes hands-on projects and teamwork, which was both exciting and demanding. Learning how to balance independent study with group assignments required me to sharpen my time management and organizational skills quickly. Working with classmates from diverse cultural backgrounds was another challenge. Everyone brought their unique perspectives and communication styles to the table, which initially made collaboration a bit tricky. But this turned out to be a valuable lesson in adaptability and cultural sensitivity. By adjusting my approach and being open to different ways of thinking, I not only became a better teammate but also gained a deeper appreciation for the value of diverse perspectives. These interactions taught me the importance of flexibility, empathy, and the ability to listen actively. Cultural differences extended beyond the classroom as well. Australian social norms and communication styles, characterized by their directness and openness, were unfamiliar to me at first. Navigating these differences required me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace a new way of expressing myself. Over time, I grew to appreciate this straightforward approach, which helped me build stronger relationships and boosted my own confidence in communicating clearly and assertively. Living independently in Sydney was another significant test, especially in managing my finances. The cost of living in Manly, though worth it for its beautiful setting, required me to plan my budget carefully. I learned to prioritize spending on essentials, track my expenses, and find ways to enjoy life within my means. This experience not only honed my financial management skills but also taught me the value of being resourceful and proactive in problem-solving. Looking back, these challenges—academic, social, and personal—have played a crucial role in shaping who I am today. They’ve pushed me to develop resilience, adaptability, and a stronger sense of independence. The experience has not only broadened my global perspective but also given me the confidence to face new challenges head-on. Studying abroad at ICMS has been more than just an academic endeavor; it’s been a life-changing opportunity for growth and self-improvement.(391字)

Studying abroad in your third year is an incredible opportunity to expand your horizons, but it does come with its share of challenges. Preparing ahead of time can make all the difference in how smoothly you transition into this new phase of your academic journey. Start by familiarizing yourself with your school’s curriculum, the local cost of living, and cultural norms. If your courses are taught in English, brushing up on your language skills before departure can boost your confidence in communication and help you adjust more easily to classroom discussions and social interactions. Adopting an open-minded attitude is key to embracing cultural differences and enriching your experience. For instance, moving from Taiwan to Australia means encountering a more laid-back and direct social vibe. Being curious about new customs and willing to step outside your comfort zone will not only help you connect with people but also provide a deeper understanding of the local culture. Engaging with classmates, participating in discussions, and joining extracurricular activities are excellent ways to immerse yourself in your new environment. These experiences can enhance your studies, broaden your perspectives, and lead to meaningful relationships—both personal and professional—that can last a lifetime. Self-management plays a critical role in making the most of your time abroad. Striking a balance between academics, social life, and self-care is essential for maintaining your physical and mental well-being. Sydney, especially areas like Manly, has a relatively high cost of living, so effective budgeting is a must. Planning your expenses, prioritizing necessities, and exploring affordable ways to enjoy the city can help you stay on track financially. Challenges are inevitable when studying abroad, whether it’s adapting to a rigorous academic schedule, managing homesickness, or juggling responsibilities. However, these moments of difficulty are also opportunities for growth. Facing these challenges head-on, seeking support when needed, and maintaining a positive mindset can turn obstacles into valuable lessons. For instance, learning to navigate a diverse academic environment or managing your own finances can build resilience, independence, and problem-solving skills that will benefit you long after your study abroad experience ends. Ultimately, studying abroad is about more than academics; it’s a chance to discover new perspectives, develop life skills, and grow both personally and professionally. The lessons learned, connections made, and memories created during this journey will shape you in profound and unforgettable ways.(393字)

After arriving in Sydney, I was fortunate enough to secure an internship that allowed me to gain valuable hands-on experience. I had the incredible opportunity to work in a first-class lounge, where I learned skills and insights that went far beyond what I could have gained in the classroom. The role challenged me to adapt quickly, think on my feet, and deliver exceptional service to high-profile guests. From understanding the finer details of luxury hospitality to refining my interpersonal skills in a fast-paced environment, this internship became a pivotal part of my learning journey. One of the highlights of this experience was the chance to explore some amazing places using the employee benefits offered by the company. I visited the Great Barrier Reef, immersing myself in the natural beauty of Australia, and also traveled to New Zealand, where I marveled at breathtaking landscapes and embraced new adventures. These trips not only allowed me to recharge but also broadened my perspective on different cultures and lifestyles. This year in Sydney, while full of challenges, turned out to be one of the most rewarding periods of my life. Balancing academics, work, and personal growth pushed me to new limits, but it also helped me grow in ways I never expected. Ending the year with unforgettable travel experiences and invaluable professional lessons feels like the perfect conclusion to this transformative journey. It’s a chapter I will always treasure as a turning point in both my career and personal development.(247字)
