(一)基本資料

It has always been my wish to study abroad on exchange, and through the Overseas Exchange Student Financial Assistance Grant, my wish has come true! It is also a sign of self-affirmation and affirmation. Through this program, I can not only have more international exchange experiences to expand my global vision, but I can also bring the views of foreign customs and education system back to Taiwan to share with my schoolmates, and at the same time, I can play the role of a student ambassador to promote Taiwan to the teachers and students of the exchange school, to promote Taiwan's culture, to introduce Taiwan's customs and characteristics, and to introduce the Tamkang University and Tamshui. I believe this will help the exchange students, staff and professors to understand the friendliness and rich resources of Tamkang University and how it fosters the international perspective of its students. I believe this will attract more international students to visit and even study at Tamkang University, giving them the opportunity to embrace the beautiful and multicultural Taiwan in the future. I have heard that the California State University system is one of the top public university systems on the west coast of the United States, and California State University Long Beach is the second largest campus in the California State University system, and is ranked 137th out of 443 U.S. public universities by U.S. News & World Report, and 64th out of the top public schools. The university has six colleges, including the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Engineering, the College of Health and Human Services, the College of Fine Arts, the College of Business, the College of Education, and the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. I have taken seven courses for a total of 24 credits over the past two semesters at California State University, Long Beach. The department I studied in Taiwan is related to international tourism management, so in the U.S., I mostly chose courses related to my undergraduate department. First semester I took Fundamentals of Spanish、Advanced Hotel Administration and Meeting Planning in Hotels and Restaurants, secand semester I took Hotel & Restaurant Information Technology、Advanced Program and Event Management and Travel, tourism, and resort recreation management。The biggest difficulty I've encountered in my coursework would have to be last semester's Fundamentals of Spanish,Because the U.S. is so close to Central and South America, there are a lot of Hispanic immigrants in the U.S. Their children are not fluent in Spanish, but they all have a basic knowledge of the language, and some of them are interested in Spanish because they took a Spanish class in high school, so whichever of the two they have, they have a basic knowledge of the language. I had never been exposed to Spanish before taking the course, so when the teacher started to teach, I couldn't keep up, so after discussing with the teacher, I decided to take one-on-one classes every 2-3 weeks to see if I could keep up with my classmates. With the teacher's help, my test scores slowly improved from failing at the beginning to about 80. I was very surprised when my teacher suggested one-on-one teaching at the beginning, and I never thought she would be willing to pick a day every 2-3 weeks to spend an entire afternoon teaching, and because of her, I was not so stressed about studying at an American university, and I am slowly getting on the right track.(294字)

In the United States, I lived in a school dormitory, which was a two-person dormitory with a toilet and a bathroom shared by seven people. When we chose to live on campus, we were forced to buy meals from the school cafeteria, and we bought a 10 meal a week plan. The cafeteria is self-service and you can swipe your card to enter during open hours and stay as long as you want, but you can only enter once per period of time. The school meals are very American and at first, we were not accustomed to the uncooked greens, but after a long time, we got used to it. The weather in California is very dry and cool, so most of the dormitories are not air-conditioned, only heaters and fans are provided. Our campus is very large and although we live in a dormitory, it still takes 10-15 minutes to walk to class. The most special thing about the school is that it has a blue pyramid that is the school's indoor gym, where volleyball games are held every week and students can enter with their ID card to watch the games for free, as well as giving out T-shirts and gifts from time to time. The school is very close to the beach, so surfing lessons are offered in PE classes. Although the school is a bit far from the downtown area, the neighborhood life is pretty good, with supermarkets just 2-3 bus stops away or a 30-minute walk away.(251字)

Because I was traveling alone to an unfamiliar environment where Chinese my native language is not spoken, I was very nervous and anxious because I didn't know what kind of questions I would be asked and whether I would be able to understand them and answer them smoothly. However, after I arrived in the U.S., I realized that everyone listened very carefully and patiently, even if they spoken slower to me, and when they realized that I didn't understand, they would try to explain it to me in a different way. I am not an outgoing person, but since I lived in the dormitory, I tried to take the initiative to talk to my classmates and made a lot of friends. I met a lot of people from different countries, so I was able to learn about different cultures and characteristics of different countries. Improved my foreign language skills. I was able to think in a more diversified way. At California State University, Long Beach, I mainly studied courses related to the tourism industry, and I found that the most different thing from Taiwan was that more than half of the students had worked in the restaurant industry or hotel industry, so teachers often asked students if they had any related experience to share in the course. The age of the students was also much different from that of the students in Taiwan as most of the students were around 20 years old and did not have much working experience.(250字)

(五)大三出國建議

I am very happy to have the opportunity to study abroad for one year, not only to know more about the way of teaching and customs in foreign countries, but also to broaden my knowledge and expand my horizons. Exchange abroad is not like traveling abroad just to go to various tourist attractions, but it is more like an opportunity to integrate and understand the local people, and to experience the differences in teaching culture between foreign universities and Taiwan universities. In the process of taking courses abroad, I have more interaction with teachers than in Taiwan, and the opportunity to understand the ideas of my classmates has increased because the teachers will always encourage students to speak, even if they have different positions, they can still calmly discuss. In the friendship is also very different sometimes just in the classroom or campus to the eye they will actively come over to talk is very different from the Asian culture. I suggest that students who want to apply for an exchange program should not be afraid to speak English with an accent and be reluctant to open up. In my experience, because the U.S. is a country with a lot of immigrants, they are very accustomed to their friends or family members speaking English with an accent, and they are also very willing to help us strengthen and improve our English, so don't be afraid to open up bravely! Sometimes you can gain some good friends.(247字)
