(一)基本資料

The school where I studied abroad was Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the United States. I went there for two semesters, fall and spring, and my main course was hospitality.(30字)

(二)課程學習

One of my favorite courses was Hotel Operations Management. This class mainly teaches us how to operate and manage a hotel. The course is held with local U.S. students. The teacher's class is interesting and innovative. We will use a simulation software for teaching and homework. You will need to use this software to run a simulated hotel, calculate costs and deal with problems, such as dealing with unhappy guests and how to allocate hotel staff time and wages, such as during peak hours. How many more employees will be needed and how much salary costs will increase. In addition, teachers will also invite lecturers to give lectures to us, so that we can better understand what will happen in actual situations and how to deal with difficulties. Sometimes lecturers will also give prizes for answering questions, so that students can participate more actively and interact with the lecturers. Another unique part of this class is that we will conduct actual role-playing. We will go to another classroom with a simulated hotel counter for us to practice. The teacher will give you a situation on the spot, and you will play a different role each time. Sometimes you will play the role of a guest, and sometimes you will play the role of the hotel manager, or the front desk. You need to make different reactions according to different situations, which is a great test of on-the-spot reaction. The final exam was also conducted in the form of role-playing. There were professional actors on site to role-play with us. It was a very interesting course. I highly recommend taking this class because the class method is very different from previous classes in Taiwan. It uses a variety of methods to allow students to understand the difficulties encountered in hotel management and learn how to deal with them. Each classmate has a different way of dealing with it. We will discuss it together to get more ways to deal with it, and we can make more local friends during the role play. (342字)

At school we live in the school dormitories. Regardless of winter or summer, the school dormitories provide air conditioning and heating, giving us a comfortable living environment. The school is very beautiful, with mainly red brick buildings and many trees and flowers to beautify the campus. In terms of transportation, walking is the main method in school. If you need to go to a distant place, most American students have cars and will choose to drive there. However, if you are an international student and don’t have a car, it doesn’t matter. There are buses for daily shopping and daily life. You can take the bus when you need supplies. As for food, you are not allowed to cook in the dormitory, but microwave ovens and refrigerators are provided in the dormitory. We eat at the school's dining hall, which is very convenient and open from 8am to 7pm. We can go there all day. The cost of school meals is included in the accommodation fee. We provide a certain number of meals per week. You can choose the method yourself. As for the weather, there is a big temperature difference between morning and evening in autumn. It can reach 25 degrees Celsius in the morning, but it can be as low as 10 degrees Celsius at night. Therefore, it is recommended to wear a short-sleeved shirt inside and a coat outside, because the temperature is just right when you stay indoors, so you don’t need to wear a coat and you won’t feel very hot. It snows in Pennsylvania in the winter and the temperature can drop to -18 degrees Celsius, which is very cold. But the US is very dry, so it won’t be as cold and damp as Taiwan. It’s a different feeling of cold. (302字)

The first and most intuitive feeling of cultural shock and difficulties encountered in school must be the language problem. It is very difficult to arrive in an unfamiliar new environment and communicate with others in a language that is not your native language. As soon as you get off the plane, you will find that your world has become completely English, both in language and text. But you will get used to this problem after a while. Although sometimes you may not be able to express what you want to say completely at the first time, they are very patient, and you will improve after a period of practice. As for the cultural shock, I encountered a lot, such as the most famous small talk in foreign countries. When you arrive there, you will still feel very uncomfortable. When they see you, they will talk to you and seem to care about how your life is going recently. In addition, they are all very confident. They don’t care about what other people wear. They can dress however they want without caring about other people’s opinions, and they will not criticize others. Sometimes when you walk on the street, they will compliment your outfit, which makes you feel good. Even if they are strangers, they will tell you directly if they appreciate you. I think this is very different from Taiwan. Last but not least, American students are very enthusiastic in answering and asking questions in class, while most Asian students are more afraid to express themselves because we believe there are correct answers and are afraid of giving wrong answers and being laughed at by classmates. But not there, everyone is very active in the discussion, and no one will laugh at others for it. (297字)

(五)大三出國建議

I think choosing a school is very important because different schools have strengths in different subjects, and you must choose a school that is strong in the subjects you like. And the geographical location is also a point. In the United States, the styles and climates of the East Coast and the West Coast are very different, so you have to choose the one that suits you. The most important thing when going abroad is to dare to express yourself. Don't be afraid of not being able to speak well. The less you communicate with others, the less progress you will make. Language is the fastest way to improve after going abroad. You should keep using it every day. After a period of time, you will definitely improve. progress. Of course, when choosing a school, the consumption levels of each place and school will be different, which also needs to be evaluated and considered. But even though there are many things to consider when going abroad, I still highly recommend that people who are able to go abroad live abroad for a while. You will experience many differences from Taiwan, not just in terms of living habits, but also in terms of cultural exchanges, which can expand your horizons. Your horizons will not be limited to your past experiences and cognitions. You should also make friends with people from all over the world. You will get to know more different cultures and enrich your experience. Finally, the most important thing is that when you go to a foreign country, you must protect yourself. Good health is very important. Take good care of yourself abroad and don't get sick. And safety must be paid attention to. (285字)
