My favorite course is Cultural Studies, taught by Dr. Maria Asavei. In this class, the teacher asks us to explain different cultural theories and then apply them to practical examples and contemporary issues. This excites me because I’ve always enjoyed learning theories, and now I get to see how they are applied in real life. It also makes me realize that theories are called theories because they transcend time and space, making them relevant in various contexts around the world. The teacher's lectures are very interesting. Sometimes, I have trouble understanding the teacher because of their accent, but I find that every article they assign is of high quality and easy to understand. Reading the articles before class helps me feel more connected to the concepts they convey. This course has also made me rethink what culture is. There isn't just one definition of culture, and everyone has a different idea of it when they hear the word. As a member of a minority group, I often encounter misunderstandings when communicating with the mainstream culture, leading to uncomfortable situations for both sides. I used to think there was only one way to define culture, but this course has taught me the importance of seeing things from others' perspectives. It’s not just about communication, understanding someone’s background and cultural context helps explain why conflicts arise. This course has inspired me to enroll in "Strategic Communication in an Intercultural Context" next semester. It’s a master’s level course that is very relevant in our globalized, diversity-conscious era. Living in culturally rich Taiwan, learning intercultural communication is crucial. By taking this course, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of how to navigate and mediate cultural differences effectively. This skill will not only benefit me academically but also personally, as I strive to become more empathetic and culturally aware in my interactions with others. Additionally, the insights from Cultural Studies have made me reflect on my own cultural identity and how it shapes my worldview. This self-awareness is invaluable, especially in a multicultural society where understanding and respecting diversity is essential. Through this course, I have learned that culture is dynamic and multifaceted, and appreciating this complexity is key to fostering meaningful intercultural dialogue.(375字)

Prague is a really cozy city. One of the Hollar campuses is right by the Vltava River, which is often called the "mother river" of the Czech Republic. Every time I go there for classes, I feel great, surrounded by that classic European vibe. The temperature can change a lot, and the hottest time is usually around 3-4 PM. In winter, you don't need super thick clothes inside because the classrooms are heated, but you do need a heavy coat for outside. The difference in temperature between indoors and outdoors can be pretty big. When it snows, wearing waterproof shoes is a must to keep your feet from getting cold and wet. The dorm is in a more suburban area, but it's really close to metro, tram, and bus stations, just a 5-10 minute walk. The city center is bustling and makes shopping super convenient. At the same time, you can see the grandeur of what was once the capital of the Bohemian Kingdom and the Holy Roman Empire. The buildings and streets have kept their historical look, so you can really imagine what Europe was like back in the day. Living in Prague, you get to experience a city full of culture and see art in every building detail. The cobblestone streets, old town square, and historic bridges all add to the atmosphere, making it both inspiring and educational. This mix of history and modern life makes studying in Europe really special. It's something I appreciate every day and one of the best parts of being here.(258字)

I feel that the most valuable lesson I've learned is how to spend time with myself. In Taiwan, I was always used to packing my schedule to the brim, and having too many idle days would make me anxious. Here, the semester is shorter, and the classes are not as frequent as in Taiwan, giving me plenty of time to plan my activities, go out, and most importantly, spend time with myself. We often assume that knowledge and growth can only come from classrooms or schools. However, over this past year, I’ve realized that both exploring and resting are essential forms of learning. I also discovered that I never truly understood what it means to rest properly. Academically, since I chose to take more master's level courses, they have been relatively challenging, with more texts to read. However, each class is very thorough, and the teachers are engaging. It just requires good time management for studying. Life here isn't too difficult, but if you don't want to spend too much money, you can practice cooking for yourself. Prague hardly has any 24-hour stores, so you need to go to the supermarket to buy groceries and then cook at home. This not only saves money but also helps you improve your cooking skills.(213字)

I highly recommend choosing Prague as your destination for studying abroad in your junior year. Prague boasts a rich artistic and cultural background, evident even just by strolling through its streets and observing the architectural marvels. Every scene is worth savoring. If you have a penchant for history and art, you'll fall in love with this city. Positioned conveniently in the middle of Europe, the Czech Republic offers easy access to neighboring countries, each with its own unique landscapes and cultures. This experience truly broadens your horizons and underscores the vastness of the world. While immersing myself in the European pace and appreciating their culture, I also reflect on my own cultural background. I ponder what aspects of my culture are equally worthy of savoring and what elements are worth sharing with the world. I firmly believe that all cultures in the world are beautiful, and it's only by accepting ourselves that we can truly progress.(156字)
